Kids Encyclopedia Facts

A Splice is a popular frozen treat from Australia and New Zealand. It has a creamy ice cream center surrounded by a fruity, icy shell. A wooden stick makes it easy to hold and eat.

The company that makes Splice is called Streets, which is part of a bigger company named Unilever.

The Story of Splice

The first Splice was released in Australia in 1962 by Streets. It quickly became a favorite frozen snack. Other companies have even made similar treats, like the 'Splits' from Bulla.

In 2009, the Australian airline Qantas started serving Pine Lime Splices on their flights. This meant even more people could enjoy this cool treat!

Splice Flavors and What's Inside

Streets offers a few different Splice flavors. The original and most famous flavor is Pine Lime. They also have a Raspberry flavor, which was introduced in the early 1990s.

Over the years, other flavors have been available too. Pine Orange was popular in the 1970s and 1980s. A Mango flavor was also made in the early 2000s.

If you look at the wrapper, it says that Splice is mostly fruit ice. About 63% of the treat is the fruity, icy part. The other 37% is a creamy, reduced-fat ice cream.
