About St. Anthony's Chapel
The chapel was first built in 1718. However, an earthquake damaged it before it could be officially opened. Charles Ludwig von Sickingen-Ebernburg was the abbot of the abbey at Kornelimünster. He ordered the damaged building to be rebuilt. The work was finished in 1781. In the same year, the chapel was dedicated to Anthony of Padua. This dedication was done by Charles Caspar von der Horst, who managed the abbey.
Location and Importance
St. Anthony's Chapel is one of five chapels. These chapels were built in a circle around the main church of Kornelimünster, which was the abbey. This shows how important the abbey was to the area.
