What Happened to the St. Croix River Hounds?
The St. Croix River Hounds team was first talked about in July 2017. At that time, people hoped they would start playing in the 2018 season.
Delays in Starting Play
- In October 2017, the start date was moved to 2019.
- Then, in October 2018, it was pushed back again to 2020.
- By October 2019, the team's planned start was set for 2021.
Stadium Construction Challenges
As of April 2021, construction on the team's ballpark had not yet begun. However, the team still said they planned to start building that year. In July 2022, a new plan for the stadium was shared. This plan described a facility with 1,400 seats. It was hoped that this stadium could open by June 2023.
Team Status in the Northwoods League
Despite the new stadium plans, the River Hounds were not listed on the Northwoods League schedule for the 2023 season. In October 2023, the team was removed from the league's website as a future club. Also, the team's own website started linking back to the Northwoods League homepage.
Future Plans for the River Hounds
In February 2025, a spokesperson for the Northwoods League explained why the team was removed from the website. He said it was part of a website redesign. He also mentioned that the team's logo was taken down because it was unclear when they would start building the stadium. The spokesperson added that the goal is for the River Hounds to begin playing in 2026.
