The Church's Story
St. Theresa's Church has an interesting history. People have been gathering here for religious services, called Mass, since the end of World War II. This means the community has been active for a long time.
Becoming a Parish
In 1974, St. Theresa's officially became a "parish." A parish is like a local church community with its own priest. This was an important step for the church.
A Special Priest
One of the priests who served at St. Theresa's was named Bernard Devlin. He later became the Roman Catholic Bishop of Gibraltar. A bishop is a very important leader in the Catholic Church.
A Road Name Debate
Because Bishop Devlin was so important, the government of Gibraltar thought about renaming the road where the church is. They wanted to call it Bishop Devlin Lane. However, the original name, Devil's Tower Road, was kept.
Building the New Church
In 1992, Bishop Devlin helped lay the first stone for a new church building. This was a big moment for the St. Theresa's community.
