St. David's Church, also known as Llanfaes Church, is a historic church located in Brecon, Powys, in Mid Wales. Its Welsh name, Llandewi yn y Maes, means "St. David's in the Field".

About St. David's Church

St. David's Church is an important part of the Brecon community. Long ago, it was in a field outside the town. Over time, Brecon grew, and the church became part of the town's suburbs.

Church Structure

The church building has a few main parts. The nave is the large central area where people sit. The chancel is the part of the church near the altar. At the west end of the church, there is a tall tower. This tower holds six bells that ring out for services and special occasions.

History and Restoration

Over the years, many people have been remembered with memorial stones inside the church. These stones tell stories of families who lived in the area centuries ago.

The church has been carefully looked after and restored many times. A major restoration happened in 1859. This work cost about £1,500, which was a lot of money back then! During this restoration, a special stained-glass window was added. This window was a gift from Colonel and Mrs. Church Pearce to remember their son.

Later, the church was rebuilt again between 1923 and 1925. This shows how important St. David's Church has been to the people of Llanfaes for a very long time. In 1808, extra land was set aside for use as a burial ground. The church has kept records of its parish members since 1780.
