Discovering St Peter's Church History

St Peter's Church is a very important historical building. It has a special "Grade I" listing, which means it's considered one of the most important historic buildings in England. This church is located right in the heart of Henley village.

How Old Is This Church?

The church building has parts that are incredibly old. Some features, like the south door, date all the way back to the 13th century. That means parts of this church are over 800 years old! Over time, new parts have been added. For example, a parish room was built in the 1800s.

The Church Bells of Henley

The tower of St Peter's Church holds a set of eight bells. These bells are also very old, with some dating back to 1480. Others were made much later, up to 1902. Imagine how many times these bells have rung over the centuries! In 1972, the frames holding the bells were repaired. The bells were then put back in place so they could ring clearly again.

There's also an extra bell in the tower. This bell is used for the clock. It was added in 1976. Before coming to St Peter's, this clock bell was in another church in a place called Ubbeston.
