The SBA is a group run by volunteers. It has about 700 members who love steamboats. They hold fun events all over the UK. These events include big gatherings called rallies. They also have meetings for members from different parts of the country.

Learning About Steam Boats

The SBA even publishes helpful books called technical manuals. They also create a colorful magazine called The Funnel. This magazine comes out four times a year and is full of news for steamboat fans everywhere.

Keeping Steam Boats Safe

Working with steamboats needs some special skills. The SBA knows that building, running, or fixing a steamboat requires good engineering knowledge. They pay very close attention to safety. It's super important that the boilers and other steam parts are strong and safe.

Boiler Testing Services

To help keep everyone safe, the SBA offers a special service. They have a part of their group called Steamboat Association Services Ltd (SBAS). This part of the SBA helps members test their steamboat boilers. This makes sure the boilers are working correctly and are safe to use.

How Many Steam Boats Are There?

In the UK, there are about 400 small steamboats. Most of these boats are between 5 and 10 meters long. In any summer, around 90 of these boats will be out on the water, steaming along! The SBA also includes members with bigger steamboats. These can be anything from canal boats called narrowboats to larger ships that travel along the coast. Many members also live in other countries around the world.
