Steel Dragon at RCDB |
Steel Dragon is an exciting steel roller coaster. You can find it at Waldameer Park in Erie, Pennsylvania, USA. This special ride is known as a "spinning" roller coaster. It was built by a company called Maurer Söhne and first opened in July 2004.
Ride History
The Steel Dragon roller coaster welcomed its first riders in 2004. Since then, it has been a popular attraction at Waldameer Park. It has been running continuously for many years.
What Makes it Spin?
The Steel Dragon is a unique ride because its cars can spin! It was designed by Maurer AG. Each car holds four riders. When the ride begins, your car takes a right turn out of the station. Then, a chain lift pulls you up a hill. After reaching the top, you experience the biggest drop of the ride. This drop happens right above the station. Next, the ride goes into a turn that is banked at 90 degrees. Finally, the coaster completes one more rectangular path before returning to the station.
The Ride Cars
The Steel Dragon has 8 cars ready for riders. In each car, four people can ride at once. Riders sit two in a row, facing back to back. Waldameer Park usually operates with four to six cars running at a time. This helps keep the line moving!
