Early Life and Ministry

Stephen Arthur Hurd was born on January 25, 1968. He grew up in Washington, D.C. His family raised him in the church.

After finishing high school at The Duke Ellington School of the Arts, he went to Howard University. In 1988, he became an ordained minister. This means he was officially recognized to lead church services.

He began leading worship at churches in his area. Since May 2001, he has served as the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden.

Stephen Hurd's Music Journey

Stephen Hurd started a music group called Corporate Worship in 1999. They released a few albums together. His solo music career officially began in 2000.

His first album was Minister Stephen A. Hurd & Corporate Worship, Vol. 1. It was released by Hurd the Word Music. His next album, In the Overflow, Vol. 2, came out in 2001.

In 2004, he released A Call to Worship. This album was a big step for him. It was his first album to appear on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart. It reached number 15.

He continued to release successful albums. My Destiny came out in 2006 and peaked at number 11 on the Gospel Albums chart. In 2008, Times of Refreshing reached number 8 on the same chart. His album O That Men Would Worship, released in 2012, also reached number 8.
