Who Was Stephen Moore?

Stephen Moore was born in 1696. His father was Richard Moore, who lived in a place called Cashell in County Tipperary, Ireland. His mother was Elizabeth Ponsonby. Her father was William Ponsonby, who was also a very important person known as the 1st Viscount Duncannon.

Stephen Moore's Political Journey

Stephen Moore became a politician in Ireland. In 1738, he was chosen to represent County Tipperary in the Irish House of Commons. This was like being a member of parliament today. He held this important job for many years, until 1761.

New Titles and Honors

In 1764, Stephen Moore received a special honor. He was given the title of Baron Kilworth. This meant he became a "peer" in Ireland, which is a special rank of nobility. His full title was Baron Kilworth, of Moore Park in County Cork.

Just two years later, in 1766, he received an even higher honor. He was made Viscount Mount Cashell. This title was connected to the City of Cashell. Sadly, Lord Mount Cashell passed away in February 1766, only about a month after receiving this new title.

Family and Legacy

Stephen Moore, Lord Mount Cashell, was married to Alicia Colville. They had several children together. Some of their sons also became politicians, following in their father's footsteps.

• Their oldest son, Richard Moore, represented a town called Clonmel in the Irish Parliament.
• Another son, William Moore, represented different areas like Clogher, Clonmel, and St Johnstown.

After Stephen Moore died, his oldest son who was still alive, also named Stephen, took over his titles. This younger Stephen Moore later received an even higher title and became the Earl Mount Cashell in 1781.
