Stevens, South Dakota facts for kids
Stevens was once a small town in Union County, located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It's known as an "extinct town" or "ghost town" because it no longer exists as a populated place.
The Story of Stevens
The town of Stevens was started in 1922 by a man named W. W. Stevens. He named the new town after himself.
Just one year later, in 1923, a post office opened in Stevens. This was an important part of the town, helping people send and receive mail. The post office continued to operate for many years. However, in 1952, the post office's name was changed to "North Sioux City," and the town of Stevens eventually faded away. Towns can become extinct when people move away, or when new roads or industries change where people live and work.
