A Look Back: Show History

The Stithians Show has a long and interesting history. It has been held for many, many years!

Where the Show Has Been Held

It's not totally clear where the very first shows took place. Some old records from 1838 mention an area called 'Churchtown'. For a long time, the show was held in fields that belonged to Ennis and Carbis Farm. The playing fields in the middle of the village became a central spot from 1938.

In 1992, the show moved to its current location. The organizers bought a large piece of land, about 65 acres (263,000 square meters), at Kennal Farm. This new site is outside the main village. It has better parking and permanent water and electricity. This move helped the show become even better and more independent.

When the Show Has Happened

The first Stithians Show was in 1834. It has happened every year since then, with only a few exceptions. It was paused for three years during World War I and five years during World War II. In 2001, there was no show because of a big outbreak of foot and mouth disease across the country. More recently, the show was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. During those years, the show ground was even used as a vaccination center!
