Stockholm Sweden Temple facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Stockholm Sweden Temple is a special building for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden. It's located in a place called Västerhaninge.

This temple is a place where members of the Church go to make important promises to God and learn more about their faith. It's different from their regular Sunday meetinghouses, which are used for weekly worship services. Temples are considered very sacred places.

Building the Temple

The plan to build the Stockholm Sweden Temple was first announced in April 1981. It took a few years to build this beautiful structure. The temple was officially opened on July 2, 1985. Since then, it has served many Church members from Sweden and nearby countries.

What Happens Inside a Temple?

Temples are used for special ceremonies and ordinances that are important to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These include:

  • Baptisms for the Dead: This is where living members are baptized on behalf of their ancestors who have passed away without the chance to be baptized.
  • Endowment: This is a series of instructions and promises made between individuals and God. It helps members understand God's plan and their purpose in life.
  • Eternal Marriages: Couples can be married, or "sealed," in the temple for time and all eternity. This means their family relationships can continue even after death.

Members believe that these temple ceremonies help them grow closer to God and strengthen their families forever.
