Stone Child College (SCC) is a special kind of school called a public community college. It's also a tribal and land-grant college. You can find it in Box Elder, Montana, in the United States.
SCC is connected to the Chippewa Cree Tribe. It's located on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in northern Montana. It's one of seven tribal colleges in Montana. In the school year 2008–2009, about 511 students went to SCC. Almost all of them (98 percent) were American Indian. Some students (20 percent) spoke more than one language or were still learning English. Students at SCC are of all ages, from 17 to 72, but most are around 30 years old.

History of Stone Child College
Stone Child College was officially started by the Chippewa-Cree Business Committee on May 17, 1984. This committee helps manage the tribe's affairs. In 1994, SCC was given a special title: a land-grant college. This means it gets support to teach about farming, science, and engineering. Thirty-one other tribal colleges also received this title at the same time.
What You Can Study at SCC
Stone Child College offers different types of degrees. You can earn a Bachelor degree, which usually takes four years to complete. They also offer Associate degrees in seventeen different subjects. These usually take about two years. Plus, you can get six different certificates. These certificates show you have special skills for certain jobs.
Sports at Stone Child College
SCC has sports teams! In August 2010, Stone Child College and other tribal colleges in Montana created the Montana Tribal Colleges Basketball League. This league allows students from different tribal colleges to compete in basketball. Today, SCC has both a men's basketball team and a women's basketball team.
Working Together: Partnerships
Stone Child College is part of a group called the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC). This group is made up of colleges that serve tribal nations. Their goal is to make tribal nations stronger and improve the lives of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
SCC was created to help American Indians get a college education. Many students live in areas that are far from other schools. Stone Child College gives them a chance to continue their education after high school.
