The Stone of Scone, also known as the Stone of Destiny or the Coronation Stone, is a very old and important stone. For hundreds of years, this special stone has been used in ceremonies. Kings and queens of Scotland and England sat on or near it when they were crowned.
The Stone of Scone is a large, rectangular block. It is made of red sandstone. It weighs about 336 pounds (152 kg). That's like two grown-up people! Its size is about 26 inches (660 mm) long, 16.75 inches (425 mm) wide, and 10.5 inches (270 mm) thick.
This famous stone was kept at Scone Abbey in Scone, near Perth, Scotland. The abbey is now in ruins. The Stone of Scone was last used in 1953. This was for the coronation of Elizabeth II, who became Queen of the United Kingdom.
