Students in Free Enterprise facts for kids
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) was an international group that helped university students. These students wanted to make their communities better places to live. They learned how to use business ideas to help people in need.
Students formed teams at their universities. They worked on projects to improve the quality of life for others. SIFE helped them become leaders who cared about their communities.
SIFE's Story
SIFE started in 1975 in the United States. A person named Robert T. Davis created it. At first, it was a program to train university students to be leaders.
These students would learn new things and then teach them to people in their communities. Over time, the program grew. Students began to compete to show how much good their projects had done.
How SIFE Teams Work
More than 1,600 university teams in 39 countries joined SIFE projects. SIFE gave students a chance to learn important skills. These skills included leadership, teamwork, and good communication.
Students learned about business and how to use it to help others. SIFE teams taught important ideas to their communities. These ideas included how markets work, starting a business, and managing money.
SIFE Competitions
Every year, SIFE held competitions around the world. The biggest one was called the World Cup. Thousands of students and business leaders took part.
Teams showed their projects to judges. The judges looked at how much the projects helped people. They chose the teams that made the biggest difference in their communities.
Each country also had its own national competition. The winning team from each country got to go to the World Cup. The main goal was to see which team best helped people by using business ideas.
SIFE's Partners
Many companies and groups worked with SIFE. These partners included big names like HSBC, PepsiCo, Unilever, DELL, and Microsoft. They helped SIFE with its mission.
