Before becoming an actress, Sue Wallace worked as a teacher. Since the early 1980s, she has had a long and successful career in television and on stage.

She has appeared in many popular British TV shows. Some of these include The Bill, a police drama, Heartbeat, which was set in the 1960s, and the medical drama Doctors.

Sue Wallace also worked often with the well-known British writer and comedian Victoria Wood. She was in several of Victoria Wood's TV projects, such as Victoria Wood as Seen on TV in the 1980s and an episode of Dinnerladies in 1998. She also appeared in Victoria Wood's historical TV film Housewife, 49 in 2006.

Her film roles include the movie Is There Anybody There? and playing the character Janet in the film I Give It a Year.
