He loved drawing, inventing characters, and making music. These activities later became a big part of his career.
After his adoptive father left, Corey was mainly raised by his mother, Brenda Johnson. He continued to be part of the foster care system. He went to Berkeley High School but struggled at first. He then moved to Louisiana to live with relatives and attended Ruben McCall High School. There, he became an excellent student. He later returned to Oakland, California, and finished high school at Skyline High School.
After high school, Johnson went to Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, for two years. While there, he met DJ Blast at a school event. This meeting led him to Maui, where he recorded his first music demo. Soon after, Johnson left college to focus on his music career full-time.
