Raja Sir Surendra Bikram Prakash Bahadur was an important ruler of a place called Sirmur. He was the Raja (which means king or ruler) of Sirmur State from 1898 until he passed away in 1911. Sirmur was a princely state, which means it was a region in British India ruled by its own local king, but it also had an agreement with the British government.

Early Life and Family

Surendra Bikram was born on November 14, 1867. His father was Raja Sir Shamsher Prakash, who was also a ruler of Sirmur. When his father died in 1898, Surendra Bikram became the new Raja.

Sirmur State was located in the Himalayan mountains. It is now part of the Sirmaur district in India. Sometimes, Sirmur was also called Nahan, after its main city. The Raja of Sirmur was a very respected leader. He was the 44th ruler in his family line.

In 1883, Raja Surendra Bikram married Suketwala Rani Subhadra Deviji Sahiba. She was the daughter of Raja Rudra Sen Bahadur, who was the ruler of Suket State. Their son, Amar Prakash, was born in 1888. Amar Prakash later became the Raja after his father and was given the special title of Maharaja.

Leading Sirmur State

Raja Surendra Bikram continued the good work started by his father. He made many improvements in Sirmur State. For example, he reorganized the courts of justice. This made sure that laws were fair and clear for everyone. He also combined Sirmur's postal service with the larger postal service of British India. This made sending and receiving mail much easier for people.

People at the time said that he paid close attention to all the details of running the state. This meant he cared a lot about making things work well for his people.

Important Achievements

Raja Surendra Bikram was recognized for his leadership. Lord Curzon, who was the Viceroy of India (a very important British official), chose him to be part of the Imperial Legislative Council. This council was a group that helped make laws for British India. Raja Surendra Bikram served on this council from 1902 to 1907.

He also attended a very important event called the Coronation Durbar in Delhi in 1903. This was a grand ceremony to celebrate the crowning of the British King or Queen.

In 1901, Raja Surendra Bikram was given a special honor. He was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India (KCSI). This was a high award given by the British government for important service.

Later Life

Raja Surendra Bikram Prakash Bahadur passed away on July 4, 1911, in Mussoorie. He had been ill for some time. His son, Amar Prakash, became the new Raja of Sirmur after him.
