Susan Kelechi Watson was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 11, 1981. Her parents came from Jamaica. Her middle name, "Kelechi," has a special meaning: it means "Thank God" in the Igbo language, which is spoken in Nigeria.
Susan worked hard in school to become an actress. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Howard University. Later, she continued her studies and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program at New York University.
