Susan Tolman is an American mathematician. She is well-known for her work in a special area of math called symplectic geometry.
She is a professor of mathematics at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. She also holds a special title there, the Lynn M. Martin Professorial Scholar.
Susan Tolman's Education
Susan Tolman earned her Ph.D. (a high-level degree) in 1993. She studied at Harvard University, a very famous school.
Her main research project for her Ph.D. was called Group Actions And Cohomology. Her teacher and guide for this project was Raoul Bott, another important mathematician.
Awards and Recognition
Susan Tolman has received important awards for her work.
- In 1998, she was given a Sloan Research Fellowship. This award helps young scientists do important research.
- From 2008 to 2009, she was named the Lynn M. Martin Professorial Scholar. This title shows her important role at the University of Illinois.
