This made her one of the most successful working-class poets of her time.

Susannah Harrison's Life Story

Her Early Life and Learning

Susannah worked as a domestic servant, which meant she worked in someone's home. Even though she worked hard, she taught herself how to read and write. This was a big achievement, especially for someone from a working-class background in the 1700s.

How Her Poems Were Published

When Susannah was 20 years old, she became very sick. She thought she might not survive her illness. Because of this, she gave her handwritten poems to John Condor. He was a Congregationalist Minister. Mr. Condor helped her by editing her poems. He then arranged for them to be published for everyone to read. Susannah Harrison passed away on August 3, 1784, in a town called Ipswich.
