About Suzanne Crowe
Early Life and Education
Suzanne Crowe grew up in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. She studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). She earned her medical degree in 1995.
After medical school, she trained to become an anaesthesiologist and intensive care doctor. This training was with the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (CAI). She also completed a special training program in Melbourne, Australia, at the Royal Children's Hospital.
She became a Fellow of the Faculty of Anaesthetists in 1999. In 2006, she became a Fellow of the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland. She also has special diplomas in healthcare management and in bereavement studies.
Her Medical Work
In 2005, Dr. Crowe returned to Dublin. She started working as a consultant (a senior doctor) in anaesthesiology. This was at Tallaght University Hospital.
In 2006, she also became a teacher at TCD. She taught surgery to medical students.
Since 2014, she has worked at Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin (CHI Crumlin). Here, she is a consultant in paediatric intensive care and anaesthesiology. This means she takes care of very sick children. She also teaches paediatrics (children's medicine) at TCD and University College Dublin (UCD).
From 2017, Dr. Crowe became the medical director of paediatric intensive care at CHI Crumlin. She also helps lead the national program for organ donation in children. She is part of several important medical groups. These groups work to improve care for children. She has also written many medical papers and book chapters.
Leadership and Advocacy
Leading the Medical Council
Professor Crowe joined the Medical Council of Ireland in 2018. This council helps make sure doctors in Ireland provide good care. In 2021, she was chosen to be the president of the council. She is the youngest person ever to hold this important role.
She has also served on other important committees. She was the Chair of the Medical Council Ethics Committee. This group discusses what is right and wrong in medicine. She also led a group that discussed important ethical topics related to health laws.
Helping Patients and Children
Dr. Crowe is a strong supporter of patients. She works to make healthcare better for everyone. She is especially passionate about improving health and social services for children.
She is the Chair of the National Screening Advisory Committee. This committee gives advice to the Minister for Health. They advise on health screening programs for the public.
She is also a member of the National Women's Council of Ireland. She is also part of the Children's Rights Alliance. These groups work to protect the rights of women and children. She is also a director and trustee for several charities. These include Cheshire Ireland, LGBT Ireland, and The Down Syndrome Centre.

Dr. Crowe has received several awards for her work. In 2000, she won the Geraldine O'Sullivan Memorial Medal for Paediatric Anaesthesia. In 2018, she won the Irish Healthcare Awards Research Paper of the Year.
