Suzanne Goin (born September 25, 1966) is a famous American chef and restaurateur. She is from Los Angeles, California. She is known for her amazing cooking and her popular restaurants. Suzanne Goin has won many awards, including several James Beard Awards. These awards are like the "Oscars" for chefs! She was even named one of the best new chefs by Food & Wine magazine in 1999.

Becoming a Chef

Suzanne Goin started her cooking journey early. When she was in her last year of high school in Los Angeles, she worked at a restaurant called Ma Maison. After high school, she went to Brown University and graduated with honors.

After college, Suzanne worked in many famous kitchens. She learned from top chefs at places like Alice Waters' Chez Panisse. This restaurant is known for using fresh, local ingredients.

Learning in France

In the early 1990s, Suzanne traveled to France. She worked with Alain Passard at his restaurant, L'Arpège. This restaurant had three Michelin stars, which is a very high honor in the cooking world. It means the food is exceptionally good! She also worked at other great French restaurants.

When she came back to Los Angeles in 1995, she worked at Campanile. She became the executive chef there. Over her career, Suzanne Goin has been nominated for or won a total of 11 James Beard Awards.

  • In 1998, she opened her first restaurant, Lucques. It quickly became very popular.

Suzanne Goin has shared her cooking knowledge with others. Her cookbook, Sunday Suppers at Lucques, was published in 2005. The next year, this book won a James Beard Award for being the "Best Cookbook From a Professional Viewpoint."

She has also appeared on television. She was featured on PBS's series Chef's Story. She also appeared on How to Cook Everything with food critic Mark Bittman.
