Suzanne Goin is a famous American chef and restaurant owner. She is from Los Angeles, California. She has won many awards for her cooking. Food & Wine magazine called her one of the best new chefs in 1999. She also won a big award called the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in 2016. In 2006, she won another James Beard Award for being the best chef in California. Her cookbook, Sunday Suppers at Lucques, also won an award.

Becoming a Top Chef

Suzanne Goin started cooking when she was young. In high school, she worked at a restaurant called Ma Maison. After high school, she went to Brown University. She studied hard and graduated with honors.

After college, Suzanne worked in many famous kitchens. She cooked at Chez Panisse with Alice Waters. She also worked at Olives with Todd English. In the early 1990s, she traveled to France. There, she learned from top chefs like Alain Passard at L'Arpège. This restaurant had three Michelin stars, which means it was very fancy.

When she came back to Los Angeles in 1995, she worked at Campanile. She became the head chef there. Suzanne has been nominated for or won 11 James Beard Awards. These awards are like the "Oscars" for chefs!

Her Amazing Restaurants

In 1998, Suzanne Goin opened her own restaurant called Lucques. It was praised by Food & Wine and Gourmet magazines. In 2002, she opened A.O.C. This restaurant earned 3 stars from the Los Angeles Times.

Her third restaurant, Tavern, opened in 2009. More recently, in 2021, Suzanne Goin opened two new restaurants. These are called Caldo Verde and Cara Cara. They are located at the Proper Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

Books and TV Shows

Suzanne Goin wrote a cookbook called Sunday Suppers at Lucques. It was published in late 2005. The next year, this book won a James Beard Foundation award. It was named "Best Cookbook From a Professional Viewpoint."

She has also appeared on television many times. She was on PBS's series Chef's Story. She also appeared on How to Cook Everything with food critic Mark Bittman. Suzanne was even a guest judge on Top Chef: Los Angeles.
