Svensk Hyllningsfest (which means "Swedish Honoring Festival") is a special celebration held in Lindsborg, Kansas. This festival happens every two years in October during odd-numbered years. It celebrates the rich Swedish history and culture of the town.
During the festival, you can enjoy many fun activities. There are exciting Swedish dances and delicious foods, including a traditional dish called lutfisk. You can also watch cooking demonstrations and see beautiful arts and crafts. Local artists and musicians provide entertainment, and there's a lively parade. A big meal called a smörgåsbord is also a highlight.
Many people from Lindsborg take part in the festival. About 400 students start learning dances for this event when they are in first grade. They begin practicing early in the school year. High school students join a special group called the Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers. These students agree to participate for four years. They act as ambassadors for the Lindsborg community, and Svensk Hyllningsfest is one of their many performances.
History of the Festival
