Syd Jackson (born 1 July 1944) is a famous former Australian rules footballer. He played for the Carlton Blues team during the 1970s. Syd usually played in the middle of the field or as a half-forward.

Early Life and Football Start

Syd is an Indigenous Australian. He was adopted by Ern Manea. Syd began his professional football career with the East Perth team in 1963. He was a very talented player. In 1966, he was named East Perth's best and fairest player. This award goes to the team's top performer.

Playing for Carlton

Syd Jackson joined the Carlton team in 1969. He was recruited by the famous coach Ron Barassi. Syd quickly became an important player for the Blues. He helped Carlton win two major championships, called premierships. These wins happened in 1970 and 1972. His jersey number was 5.

Syd Jackson was also part of "The Galahs" team. This was a special group of Australian rules footballers. They traveled the world in 1968 to show off the sport. He is also a member of the Indigenous Team of the Century. This team honors the best Indigenous Australian players ever.
