The Sydney Bus Museum is a special place in Leichhardt, Sydney, Australia. It's run by over 200 volunteers who love old buses. They work hard to save and show off a huge collection of historic buses. This museum is open to everyone on the first and third Sunday of each month.
The museum looks after more than 80 buses and other vehicles. These buses are from the 1920s all the way up to the 2000s! You can see many different types, like single-decker and double-decker buses. Some are from Sydney, others from different parts of New South Wales. They even have cool double-decker buses from Hong Kong and London! Sometimes, their buses are used for special events or even in movies and photos.
History of the Museum
The Sydney Bus Museum first opened its doors in 1986. It was located in an old bus garage called the Tempe Bus Depot. The official opening ceremony happened in April 1988.
Later, the State Transit Authority needed the Tempe depot again. So, the museum had to find a new home. In 2010, they were given space in a unused part of the Leichhardt Bus Depot. The museum was closed for a few years while they moved and set up the new site.
The new museum at Leichhardt officially opened on August 1, 2016. Transport Minister Andrew Constance helped open the new location.
