The Sydney Bus Museum is a special place in Leichhardt, Sydney, Australia. It's run by over 200 amazing volunteers! They work hard to save and show off a huge collection of old buses. It's like a time capsule for buses! This museum is open to everyone on the first and third Sunday of every month.
Imagine seeing over 80 buses from the 1920s all the way to the 2000s! The museum fixes, takes care of, and displays these old buses. You can find both single-decker and double-decker buses there. Many are from Sydney and other parts of New South Wales. They even have cool double-decker buses from places like Hong Kong and London. Sometimes, these historic buses are used for special events or even appear in movies!
History of the Bus Museum
The Sydney Bus Museum first opened its doors in 1986. It was originally located at the old Tempe Bus Depot. A big opening event happened in April 1988.
Later, the State Transit Authority decided to use the Tempe depot again. So, in 2010, the museum moved to a different spot. They found a new home in an unused part of the Leichhardt Bus Depot.
Because of the big move, the museum had to close for a few years. It was closed between 2010 and 2016. The new museum at Leichhardt officially opened on August 1, 2016. Transport Minister Andrew Constance was there for the special opening.
