Sylvi Listhaug (born 25 December 1977) is a Norwegian politician. She is currently the leader of the Progress Party since 2021.
Before becoming party leader, Listhaug held several important jobs in the Norwegian government. She served as a minister under Prime Minister Erna Solberg. Her roles included Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Minister of the Elderly and Public Health, and Minister of Immigration and Integration. She also served as Minister of Agriculture and Food. Listhaug started her political journey in Oslo, where she worked as the City Commissioner for Welfare and Social Services.

Early Life and Education
Sylvi Listhaug was born in Ålesund, Norway. She grew up on her family's farm in Ørskog, a rural area in Møre og Romsdal. Her father worked in transportation, and her mother managed the family farm. Sylvi also has two twin siblings.
Starting Her Career
In 1995, Listhaug began working as a care assistant at a home for the elderly in Ørskog. This job helped her support herself while she was a student.
Studying at University
From 1996 to 2000, she studied history, social sciences, and special education at Volda University College. After graduating in 2000, she became a qualified teacher. She then worked as a teacher at Sjøholt school in Ørskog from 2000 to 2001.

Sylvi Listhaug has held many important positions in Norwegian politics. She has been a key figure in the Progress Party for many years.
Minister of Agriculture and Food
From 2013 to 2015, Listhaug served as the Minister of Agriculture and Food. In this role, she was responsible for policies related to farming and food production in Norway.
Minister of Immigration and Integration
From 2015 to 2018, Listhaug became Norway's first Minister of Immigration and Integration. This new government position was created during a time when many people were seeking safety in Europe.
- Reducing Asylum Seekers: During her time as minister, the number of people seeking asylum in Norway dropped significantly. In 2015, about 30,000 people arrived, but by 2017, this number was around 2,000.
- New Regulations: While the overall number of people moving to Europe also decreased, Listhaug was known for suggesting and getting support for new rules. These rules helped to make the system for new arrivals stricter. This led to the lowest number of new asylum seekers in 19 years.
Other Ministerial Roles
Listhaug continued to serve in other government roles:
- Minister of Justice, Public Security and Immigration: She briefly held this position in 2018.
- Minister of the Elderly and Public Health: From May to December 2019, she focused on health and care services for older people and the public.
