Søren Kragh-Jacobsen (born March 2, 1947, in Copenhagen, Denmark) is a famous Danish film director, musician, and songwriter. He is known for making movies and writing music.

He was one of the people who started the Dogme95 project. This was a special way of making films without using fancy technology or special effects. They wanted movies to look very real.

Søren Kragh-Jacobsen started his career as a popular musician in Denmark. Later, he went to film school in Prague to learn about making movies. When he came back to Denmark, he began directing and writing for television shows.

He helped create the avant-garde film project called Dogme95. This project was all about making films that felt very real. They avoided artificial lights and special effects. The idea was to show life as it truly is.

His Film Career

Søren Kragh-Jacobsen made his first full-length movie, Wanna See My Beautiful Navel?, in 1978. After that, he made many successful films. Some of his well-known movies include Rubber Tarzan (1981), Thunderbirds (1983), and Emma's Shadow (1988).

He also directed The Boys from St. Petri (1991) and The Island on Bird Street (1997). His movie Mifune's Last Song (1999) was a big hit around the world. It was a Dogme film, meaning it followed the special rules of the Dogme95 project. This film won a special award called the Silver Bear at the 49th Berlin International Film Festival.

Another one of his films, Skagerrak (2003), was shown at the 25th Moscow International Film Festival. Besides movies, he has also directed commercials and TV series in Denmark and Sweden.

Søren Kragh-Jacobsen has won many important awards for his work. He received the Memorial François Truffaut Award. He also won an Emmy award for The Island on Bird Street. His film Mifune's Last Song earned him a Silver Bear at the Berlinale film festival in Berlin. His movie The Boys from St. Petri was even shown at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival.

Søren Kragh-Jacobsen is married to a musician named Cæcilie Nordgreen. They live in Copenhagen and have two children.
