Taikai Uemoto (上本 大海, Uemoto Taikai, born June 1, 1982) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender for several teams during his career.

Playing Career Highlights

Taikai Uemoto was born in Ibusuki, Japan, on June 1, 1982. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey.

Early Career with Júbilo Iwata

In 2001, Taikai Uemoto joined Júbilo Iwata, a club in the top Japanese league, J1 League. It was tough for him to get much playing time there. This was because the team had many famous players, including members of the Japan national football team.

Success with Oita Trinita

In 2005, Uemoto moved to another J1 League club, Oita Trinita. Here, he became a regular player. He often played as a left-back in a defense system with three defenders. He played many matches for the team over several years. A big moment for the club came in 2008. Oita Trinita won the 2008 J.League Cup, which was their first major title ever! However, at the end of the 2009 season, the club faced financial problems. Because of this, they moved down to the J2 League, and Uemoto left the team.

Moving to Cerezo Osaka and Vegalta Sendai

In 2010, Uemoto joined Cerezo Osaka, another J1 League team. He continued to play many games there. He often played as a central defender alongside another player named Teruyuki Moniwa. In 2012, he moved to Vegalta Sendai, also in the J1 League. He was a regular central defender for them in 2012, playing with Jiro Kamata. Unfortunately, from 2013 onwards, injuries kept him from playing as much.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2016, Uemoto moved to V-Varen Nagasaki in the J2 League. He did not play many matches there. In 2017, he joined Kagoshima United FC, a J3 League club located in his home area. He played many games for them that year. Taikai Uemoto decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2017 season.
