Takaya Kurokawa (黒河 貴矢, Kurokawa Takaya, born April 7, 1981) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper, which is the player who protects the goal and tries to stop the other team from scoring.
Club Career Highlights
Takaya Kurokawa was born in Saijo, Japan, on April 7, 1981. After finishing high school, he joined a team called Shimizu S-Pulse in 2000. He started playing for them in 2000, and he got more chances to play as a goalkeeper.
However, when another goalkeeper, Yohei Nishibe, joined the team in 2004, Takaya didn't play as much. He then moved to other teams like Tokyo Verdy and JEF United Chiba in 2006, but he still didn't get many opportunities to play in matches.
In 2007, he moved to a team in the Japanese Regional Leagues called Japan Soccer College. Here, he played in many games, which was a great chance for him to show his skills. After that, he joined Albirex Niigata. At Albirex Niigata, he was often a reserve goalkeeper, meaning he was ready to play if the main goalkeeper couldn't. He played for this team until the end of the 2016 season, when he decided to retire from professional football.
National Team Experience
Takaya Kurokawa also had the chance to be part of Japan's national football teams for young players.
Playing for Japan's Youth Teams
In June 2001, Takaya was chosen for the Japan U-20 national team. This team played in the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship, which is a big tournament for players under 20 years old from all over the world. Even though he was part of the squad, he was a reserve goalkeeper and didn't play in any matches.
Later, in August 2004, he was selected for the Japan U-23 national team. This team went to the 2004 Summer Olympics to compete in football. Just like with the U-20 team, he was a reserve goalkeeper and didn't get to play in the games.
