That first book was all about rabbits. This new book shares many rabbit myths and legends. It also has chapters about characters from the first book. Just like Watership Down, this book has special quotes at the start of each chapter. It also includes a glossary for the Lapine language, which is what the rabbits speak.

About the Stories
Tales from Watership Down is split into three main parts. Each part tells different kinds of stories about the rabbits.
Part One: Rabbit Legends
The first part has five old stories about a legendary rabbit hero named El-ahrairah. He is a trickster rabbit, much like a folk hero. There are also two newer rabbit tales in this section. These stories teach lessons or explain things in the rabbit world.
Part Two: El-ahrairah's Adventures
The second part tells four exciting stories. They are about El-ahrairah and his friend Rabscuttle. These adventures happen after they visit the mysterious Black Rabbit of Inlé. The Black Rabbit is a very important figure in rabbit mythology.
Part Three: Life at Watership Down
The third part has eight chapters. These chapters take place at the Watership warren. They describe events that happen in the months after the first book ends. You get to see what life is like for the rabbits after their big journey.
New Characters You'll Meet
This book introduces five new rabbit characters. They each bring new challenges or friendships to the story.
- Flyairth: She is a female rabbit, called a doe. She causes some trouble and makes things difficult for the Watership Down group.
- Sandwort: He is a young male rabbit, called a buck. At first, he doesn't show much respect. But he learns and changes his ways as the story goes on.
- Coltsfoot: This buck feels very sad and down. Fiver, one of the main characters, becomes his friend and helps him.
- Stonecrop: He is a rabbit who escaped from a hutch. He joins the wild rabbits of Watership Down.
- Nyreem: She is a doe from the Efrafan warren. She has an injured leg, which makes her journey harder.
Most of the characters from the first Watership Down book are still here. They keep their important roles in the warren. Hyzenthlay, a strong doe, even becomes a Co-Chief Rabbit. She shares this important job with her mate, Hazel.
