A Look at Tantoyuca's History
Tantoyuca was first settled by the Huastec people a very long time ago, even before the Spanish arrived. Later, in the late 1400s or early 1500s, the Mexica people, who were part of the Aztec Triple Alliance, took control of the area.
Tantoyuca became an official town (called a villa) on April 12, 1850. It was then given the higher status of a city (called a ciudad) on July 25, 1901.
