Tate Russell is an Australian soccer player. He was born on August 24, 1999. Tate plays as a right back for Western United in the A-League. A right back is a defender who plays on the right side of the field.

Tate Russell's Soccer Journey
Tate Russell started playing soccer in 2003. He was just four years old! His first club was Wollongong Olympic Junior in Wollongong. In 2008, he joined Football NSW's Project 22.
Soon after, in 2010, he moved to the South Coast Wolves. He played with them for four years. After that, he joined the youth teams at Western Sydney Wanderers.
Playing for Western Sydney Wanderers
Tate was part of the Western Sydney Wanderers Youth team. This team won the Y-League championship in the 2017–18 season. He played the whole game in the Grand Final on February 3, 2018. His team beat Melbourne City Youth 3–1.
Tate signed his first professional contract with Western Sydney Wanderers on June 6, 2018. It was a two-year scholarship deal. He played his first professional game for Western Sydney on January 5, 2019. This was against Melbourne Victory at ANZ Stadium. Tate played the entire game, but the Wanderers lost 2–1.
Tate scored his first professional goal on August 28, 2019. This was in a 2019 FFA Cup match against Sydney United. He hit a low shot into the goal. His team won the game by a score of 7–1.
In 2022, Tate had a serious injury during pre-season training. He tore a ligament in his knee, which is called an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This meant he could not play for the entire 2022/23 A-League season.
After 530 days, Tate finally returned to play in Round 1 of the 2023/24 season. Even with his injury, he earned a new contract. He signed a two-season deal to stay with the Wanderers until the 2024/25 season. In 2024, Tate moved to play for Western United.
Playing for Australia
Tate Russell has also played for Australia's national youth teams. He has played four games for the Australia U20 team. He also played two games for the Australia U23 team.
