Tatiana Belinky (born March 18, 1919 – died June 15, 2013) was a famous Brazilian writer. She was born in Petrograd, Russia. She wrote more than 250 books especially for children.

Her Early Life

Tatiana Belinky came to Brazil with her family when she was ten years old. They moved to Brazil to escape civil wars happening in Russia. When she was eighteen, she finished a special course at Mackenzie University. After that, she started working as a secretary. She could speak both Portuguese and English.

At twenty, she began studying Philosophy at Faculdade São Bento. But she stopped her studies when she married Júlio Gouveia in 1940. Júlio was a doctor and an educator. They had two sons together.

Starting Her Writing Career

In 1948, Tatiana Belinky started working with her husband. They adapted, translated, and created plays for children. These plays were for the city government of São Paulo.

In 1952, they directed a play called "The Three Bears" for TV Tupi. It was a huge success! Because of this success, TV Tupi asked them to have their own regular show.

On TV Tupi, Tatiana and Júlio created the first TV show based on Monteiro Lobato's famous book, Sítio do Pica-Pau Amarelo. They worked at TV Tupi until 1966. During this time, Tatiana Belinky won her first award as a writer. She also became the president of the São Paulo State Commission for Theatre (CET).

Writing for Newspapers and Books

In 1972, Tatiana began working for TV Cultura. She also wrote for big newspapers in São Paulo. These included Folha de S.Paulo, Jornal da Tarde, and O Estado de S. Paulo. She wrote articles, essays, and reviews about children's books.

Later, in 1985, she started writing her own books. She helped create a series of books for children and young people. In 1987, she published her first book, "Limeriques." This book was based on funny Irish poems called limericks.

After "Limeriques," Tatiana started writing many more books. She wrote over one hundred works! Her books won many literary awards. One of the most famous was the Jabuti Prize, which she received in 1989.

Her Famous Works

Some of her most well-known books include "Coral dos Bichos," "Limeriques," "O Grande Rabanete," and "Di-versos Russos." She also wrote "Limerique das Coisas Boas." Later in her life, she also published books of short stories and memories.

On April 15, 2010, Tatiana Belinky became a member of the Academia Paulista de Letras. This is a very important group of writers and thinkers in São Paulo.

Tatiana Belinky passed away at the age of 94. She had been in the hospital in São Paulo for 11 days.
