Taylor Knibb, born on February 14, 1998, is an amazing American triathlete. A triathlete is someone who competes in a race with three parts: swimming, cycling, and running. Taylor is a three-time world champion in the Ironman 70.3 race, winning in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

She competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which happened in 2021. There, she won a silver medal in the mixed relay triathlon event. Taylor was the youngest woman ever to join the US Olympic triathlon team.

At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Taylor made history. She qualified to compete in two different sports: triathlon and cycling time trial. She also races in the T100 Triathlon series, which is a middle-distance triathlon.

Taylor's Early Life and Start in Triathlon

Taylor Knibb started doing triathlons when she was 11 years old. She was inspired by watching her mom, Leslie Knibb, compete in the Ironman triathlon. When Taylor was 15, she began racing in youth and junior elite competitions.

During high school at Sidwell Friends School, she was very active. She was on the swim team and the cross country running team. She also kept competing in triathlons. In 2014 and 2015, she was named a top runner in Washington D.C.

After high school, Taylor went to Cornell University, like many people in her family. She ran track and cross country for four years. In her senior year, she also joined the swim team. She finished college in 2020.

Taylor looks up to her mom, Tamara Gorman, and Gwen Jorgensen. In 2017, she joined the national triathlon team. She was the youngest athlete on the team for a long time.

Taylor's Amazing Career Achievements

Taylor had a very successful junior career. She won the USA Triathlon Junior National Championship twice, in 2015 and 2016. She also won the Junior World Championships in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, she won the U23 World Championships.

In 2017, she finished second at the ITU World Triathlon Series in Edmonton. This made her the youngest woman to ever get on the podium in that series.

Olympic Qualification and Medals

Taylor earned her spot on the US Olympic team for the Tokyo 2020 Games. She won gold at the first race of the 2021 World Triathlon Championships Series in Yokohama, Japan. At the Tokyo Olympics, she finished sixteenth in the women's individual event. Later, she helped the US team win a silver medal in the mixed relay event.

At the Paris Test Event in August 2023, Taylor placed fifth. This result qualified her to compete in triathlon for Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics. In May 2024, she won a cycling race, the Time Trial at the USA Cycling National Road Championships. This win allowed her to compete in the cycling time trial event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This made her a rare athlete competing in two different sports at the same Olympics. In Paris, she finished nineteenth in both the individual triathlon and the cycling time trial. She then helped the US team win another silver medal in the mixed relay triathlon.

Ironman 70.3 World Champion
