Taylor even qualified for two different sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics: triathlon and cycling.

Early Life and School

Taylor Knibb started doing triathlons when she was 11 years old. She was inspired by her mom, Leslie Knibb, who competed in the Ironman Triathlon. By age 15, Taylor began competing in races for young athletes.

During high school at Sidwell Friends School, Taylor was very active. She was on the swim team and the cross country team. She also kept competing in triathlons. In 2014 and 2015, she was named the top cross country runner in Washington D.C.

After high school, Taylor went to Cornell University. Many of her family members had also gone there. At Cornell, she ran track and cross country for four years. She also joined the swim team in her final year. She finished college in 2020.

Taylor looks up to her mother, Tamara Gorman, and Gwen Jorgensen. She joined the national triathlon team in 2017. She is still the youngest athlete on that team.

Amazing Athletic Career

Taylor had a very successful career as a young athlete.

  • She won the USA Triathlon Junior National Championship in 2015 and 2016.
  • She also won the Junior World Championships in 2016 and 2017.
  • In 2018, she won the U23 World Championships.

Taylor is one of only three women to win both Junior and U23 world titles. In 2017, she finished second at the ITU World Triathlon Series in Edmonton. This made her the youngest woman ever to get on the podium in that series.

Taylor earned her spot on the US Olympic team in 2021. She won a gold medal at the World Triathlon Championship Series in Yokohama, Japan. This race was held on May 15, 2021.

In October 2022, Taylor won the Women's Ironman 70.3 World Championship. This race took place in St George, Utah. She became the youngest woman ever to win this tough race. One year later, she won the Ironman 70.3 World Championship again. She successfully defended her title in 2023. She won it a third time in 2024.

Taylor competed in her first Ironman World Championship in 2023. She finished in fourth place. She was the first American woman to cross the finish line.

At a test event in Paris in August 2023, Taylor placed fifth. This result helped her qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in triathlon. In May 2024, she won a cycling race called the Time Trial at the United States National Road Race Championships. This win qualified her for the cycling time trial event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This made her a rare athlete who competes in two different sports at the Olympics. In the cycling event, she finished nineteenth after falling a few times. For the triathlon events, she finished nineteenth in the individual women's race. Then, she helped the US team win another silver medal in the mixed relay triathlon.
