Tebra Castle is an old and interesting castle found in the Pontevedra province of Galicia, Spain. It sits in the beautiful Tomiño valley, where the river Tebra flows. This river is a smaller stream that joins the larger Miño river.

A Look Back at Tebra Castle's History

Tebra Castle has a long and exciting history. In 1345, a person named Alonso Gómez Churruchao owned it. Later, in 1468, Pedro Álvarez de Soutomaior took control of the castle.

Between 1481 and 1486, something big happened. Don Fernando de Acuña, working for the powerful Catholic Monarchs (Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile), ordered the castle to be destroyed. After this, Alvaro Suarez de Deza became its owner.

But the story didn't end there! Queen Juana la Loca later gave permission for the castle to be rebuilt. Just one year after that, the Count of Camiña became the new owner.

What Makes Tebra Castle Special?

Tebra Castle has many beautiful parts. The walls with their special tops, called battlements, are very pretty. There's also a small sentry box and a decorative edge called a cornice.

The most amazing part of the castle is its Renaissance tower. This tower was rebuilt in 1532 by Alvaro Suarez Deza after the Catholic Monarchs had it destroyed. The tower is very wide, about 26 feet (8 meters) on two of its sides.

The castle has four levels: a ground floor and three more floors above it. Inside, you can find a wide viewpoint, a gallery with rounded arches, and a chapel.

Visiting Tebra Castle Today

Today, Tebra Castle is in good condition. It is located in a place called O Seixo, which is part of Tomiño. The castle is now a private home. However, visitors are allowed to explore the outdoor areas for free.
