Theodore Fred Williams (born September 22, 1957) is a well-known American announcer and voice-over artist. Many people know him as The Man with the Golden Voice because of his deep, smooth voice. He has also worked as a radio personality and sportscaster.
Ted Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York. In the early 1980s, he became a late-night radio disc jockey. He worked at station WVKO in Columbus, Ohio. After more than ten years in radio, Ted faced difficult times. He lost his job in 1994 and later became homeless.
In January 2011, a video of Ted Williams was posted on YouTube. This video quickly became very popular, and Ted received a lot of attention. Many people offered him jobs because of his amazing voice. For the first time in nearly 20 years, Ted found steady work. He also wrote a book called A Golden Voice: How Faith, Hard Work, and Humility Brought Me from the Streets to Salvation with Bret Witter. Ted Williams also started a non-profit group called the Ted Williams Project. This organization helps homeless shelters. He has also appeared on WATP Live, a podcast about podcasts.
Early Life and Inspiration
Ted Williams grew up in Brooklyn, New York City. He joined the United States Army and served for three years. After his time in the Army, he received an honorable discharge. He then went to school to study voice acting.
Ted found his inspiration to become a radio announcer when he was 14 years old. In 1971, he went on a field trip. He heard a radio announcer and was surprised by how different the person looked from what he had imagined. This experience made him want to work in radio. Later, Ted worked overnight shifts at WVKO in Columbus. This station played soul music at the time.
Ted Williams is a father to nine children. He has two sons and seven daughters.
