Tedei facts for kids
The Tedei, also known as the Thirrily, are an Aboriginal Australian people. They come from Western Australia and are connected to the larger Yingkarta group.
Where the Tedei Lived
The Tedei people lived on a large area of land. This land was about 3,100 square miles (8,000 km2) in size. It stretched from the east coast of Shark Bay. It went inland to the headwaters of the Wooramel River valley. Important places like Pimbie, Carey Downs, and Towrana were within their country. The coastal area north of Yaringa was also part of their land. The Tedei knew their land's borders well. They described them as a day's walk from either side of the Wooramel River.
Understanding the Tedei People
For a long time, people thought the Tedei were a completely separate group. But a language expert named Peter Austin studied their language. His work showed that the Tedei, or Thirrily, were actually a special language group. They spoke a different form, or dialect, of the Yingkarta language. They were linked to the Yingkarta, just like the Mandi people were.
