The Tennessee Supreme Court Building in Nashville, Tennessee, is a very important historical building. It's where the Tennessee Supreme Court has its offices and where the judges meet to make big decisions for the state. This building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 because of its special history and design.

History of the Building

This grand building was finished in 1937. It stands across from the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville, at the corner of Charlotte Avenue and 7th Avenue North. Before this building was built, the Supreme Court used to hold its meetings inside the Capitol building.

The building has four stories and was designed by Nashville architects named Marr & Holman. They used a style called Stripped Classicism. This means the building looks like old Greek or Roman temples, but with fewer fancy decorations. The Rock City Construction Company built it. On March 18, 2014, the building was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes places that are important to American history and culture.

This historic court building has even been a filming location! Parts of three different movies were shot here: Marie in 1984, Last Dance in 1995, and Billy: The Early Years in 2008.

Other Supreme Court Locations

The Tennessee Supreme Court doesn't just meet in Nashville. It also has buildings in Jackson and Knoxville. The Supreme Court building in Knoxville is also a very special place, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
