About Tetragonia Moorei

This plant is an annual herb, which means it lives for only one year. It can grow flat on the ground or stand up straight. It usually grows between 3 and 30 centimeters (about 1 to 12 inches) tall. Its yellow-green flowers bloom in August.

Where It Lives

You can find Tetragonia moorei scattered across the Mid West and Goldfields-Esperance regions of Western Australia. It likes to grow in sandy or clay soils.

How It Got Its Name

This plant was first officially named Tetragonia tetragonoides by a botanist named Kuntze. However, that name was used incorrectly for a while. Then, in 1997, a scientist named M. Gray gave it its current name, Tetragonia moorei. This new name was published in a science journal called Telopea.
