Teudebur of Alt Clut facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Teudebur of Alt Clut was a king who ruled a kingdom called Alt Clut a long time ago. This kingdom was in the area where Dumbarton Rock is today, in what is now Scotland. Teudebur was king during the early to mid-700s, probably from about 722 to 752.

Who Was King Teudebur?

Teudebur was also known as Teudebur map Beli. Ancient records tell us that his father was Beli II, who was likely the king before him. Teudebur himself was the father of Dumnagual III, who became king after him. This shows that being king often ran in the family back then.

A Time of Other Kings

While Teudebur was king of Alt Clut, another very powerful king was ruling nearby. This was Óengus mac Fergusa, who was the king of the Picts. The Picts were another group of people living in Scotland at that time.

A Big Battle

In the year 750, a big battle happened. The people of Alt Clut, led by their king Teudebur, fought against the Pictish army. This battle took place at a place called Mocetauc, which some people think might be modern-day Mugdock.

The Britons (people from Alt Clut) won this important battle! During the fight, Óengus's brother, named Talorgen, was killed. This was a big victory for Teudebur and his kingdom.

The End of His Reign

Historical records say that King Teudebur died in the year 752. Because he died shortly after the big victory in 750, we are quite sure he was the king who led his people to that important win against the Picts.
