What is The Acorn People About?

Ron Jones was excited for his summer job at Camp Wiggin. He was going to be a camp counselor. Ron knew the kids at Camp Wiggin had disabilities. But he thought he would still have fun. He imagined hiking, swimming, and boating outdoors.

When Ron arrived, he met the children. At first, he was surprised by how serious their disabilities were. He felt a bit discouraged. But as he got to know the kids, his feelings changed. He started to really like them. He even grew attached to the camp itself. When the summer ended, he was sad to see the children leave.

Meeting The Acorn People

Ron Jones met his group of campers. They called themselves "The Acorn People." They chose this name because they made special acorn necklaces at camp. Over the summer, these children taught Ron an important lesson. Even with their disabilities, they were just like other kids inside. They could do much more than he first thought. Ron grew to care for and love these children. He felt as strongly about them as the full-time staff at Camp Wiggin.

The Acorn People was recognized as the Christian Book of the Year.
