The Adventurous Four is a thrilling series of books by the famous author Enid Blyton. It includes two novels and one short story. The exciting adventures follow two sets of siblings: Jill and Mary, who are twins, and their older brother Tom. They team up with their brave fisher friend, Andy. Even though the characters are from England during World War II, their adventures take place in beautiful Scotland. The very first book in the series came out in 1941, right in the middle of the war.

What's New in Modern Versions?

In newer versions of these books, some things have changed. Editors decided to give the girls new names: Jill became Pippa, and Mary became Zoe. The books also got new titles in 1998. The Adventurous Four was renamed The Adventurous Four Shipwrecked!, and The Adventurous Four Again became The Adventurous Four Stranded!.

There was also a short story called "Off With the Adventurous Four!". It first appeared in a collection called "Enid Blyton's Omnibus!" in 1952. Later, in 1998, Clive Dickinson expanded this short story into a full novel, which was titled The Adventurous Four Trapped!.

The Adventurous Four (1941) – Now Called The Adventurous Four Shipwrecked!

This first book starts when Tom, Jill, and Mary are on holiday in a small fishing village in Scotland. Andy, a local fisherman's son, promises to take them out on his boat. But a big storm hits, pushing them far off course. They end up shipwrecked on a group of small islands.

Things get even more serious when they discover that the islands might be a secret base for enemy submarines. The story is set during World War II, and the children find themselves in a dangerous situation. They must deal with a hidden enemy base that could threaten Britain.

The Adventurous Four Again (1947) – Now Called The Adventurous Four Stranded!

In this second adventure, Mary, Jill, and Tom are again on holiday in Scotland. Their friend Andy takes them on a sailing trip to a place called the Cliff of Birds. What they don't know is that this cliff hides a dangerous secret. It's being used by people who are illegally selling guns. The children soon find themselves caught up in another exciting mystery.

Off With the Adventurous Four! (Short Story, 1952) – Now Called The Adventurous Four Trapped!

"Off With the Adventurous Four!" was originally a short story. It was part of a collection published in 1952. Later, in 1998, a writer named Clive Dickinson expanded this short story into a complete novel. This new, longer version was given the title The Adventurous Four Trapped!.
