Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Amazing Race is an exciting American adventure reality TV show. It has been on the CBS channel since 2001. In the show, teams of two people race around the world. They follow clues, travel to different countries, and complete challenges. The first team to reach the final finish line wins a big cash prize!

What is The Amazing Race?

The Amazing Race is a popular TV show where teams compete in a race across the globe. Each team has two members, like friends, family, or dating couples. They travel to many different countries, often visiting three to six continents in one season. The show is known for its fast-paced challenges and exciting travel.

How Does the Race Work?

The race is split into different legs. In each leg, teams get clues that lead them to their next destination. They must travel using various types of transport, like planes, trains, buses, cars, and even boats. Once they arrive, they face challenges called "Roadblocks" and "Detours."

What are Roadblocks and Detours?

A Roadblock is a challenge where only one team member can participate. The clue usually asks a question like "Who's ready to get dirty?" This hints at the type of task. The chosen team member must complete the task alone.

A Detour gives teams a choice between two different tasks. Both tasks are usually difficult, but they test different skills. For example, one might be physical, and the other might be mental. Teams must choose one and complete it before moving on.

Who is the Host?

The show's host is Phil Keoghan. He meets the teams at the start of each leg and at the "Pit Stop." He also explains the challenges and tells teams if they are safe or eliminated. Phil is known for his famous line, "The world is waiting for you... travel safe!"

Winning The Amazing Race

At the end of each leg, teams must check in at a "Pit Stop." This is a safe zone where they can rest before the next leg. The last team to arrive at the Pit Stop is usually eliminated from the race. The race continues until only three teams are left. These final teams race to the finish line in the United States. The first team to arrive wins the grand prize, which is usually $1 million!
