Meet The Barkleys: A Dog Family
This cartoon was inspired by another TV show called All in the Family. The Barkleys features a family of anthropomorphic dogs. This means they are dogs who act like humans!
The main characters are:
- Arnie Barkley: He is a bus driver and the dad. Henry Corden did his voice.
- Agnes Barkley: She is Arnie's wife and the mom. Joan Gerber voiced her.
- Terry Barkley: One of their teenage children. Her voice was done by Julie McWhirter.
- Roger Barkley: The other teenager. Steve Lewis voiced him.
- Chester Barkley: The youngest child. Gene Andrusco was his voice actor.
The show's theme song had a fun message. It ended with the line, "Just remember Arnie Barkley's bark is worse than his bite." This means he might sound tough, but he's really kind. The music for the theme song was created by Doug Goodwin.
When Did The Barkleys Air?
The TV series first started on NBC on September 9, 1972. It aired new episodes until December 2, 1972. After that, NBC continued to show reruns of the episodes. The reruns aired until September 1, 1973.
Only 13 episodes of The Barkleys were ever made. Years later, in 2016, the show came back on TV. It aired on Saturday mornings on the Retro TV channel.
