What is The Channel Project?
The Channel project is being developed by a company called Magellan Properties. The buildings are designed by Robinson Architects. This big plan covers over 5.35 hectares of land.
A New Tower for Bradford
The project also includes a tall building, a tower that will be about 67 metres high. This tower will have 22 floors, mostly for people to live in. The whole project is expected to cost around £350 million. This money comes from private investors, not the government.
The Channel is one of four main areas chosen in a big plan for Bradford. This plan was created by a famous architect named Will Alsop. In 2008, a local businessman named Afzal Kahn was mentioned as a main investor helping to fund the project.
Building the New Neighbourhood
The Channel project is expected to be built over 10 years. It's a long-term plan to improve the city.
Changes to the Original Plan
At first, the Bradford City Council had some worries about how tall the buildings in the plan were. After some disagreements, an independent group called Urbed looked at the project. They suggested some changes.
The new design now includes two towers, one with 24 floors and another with 16 floors. This makes the overall height of the buildings a bit lower than first planned. The council has recently looked at these new plans and given them a first approval. Now, the government needs to give its final approval before construction can begin. It's not yet known if there will be more public discussions or changes to the design.
