The Chinese Feast (Chinese: 金玉滿堂) is a fun 1995 Hong Kong movie. It was co-written, produced, and directed by Tsui Hark. The film stars famous actors like Leslie Cheung, Anita Yuen, Kenny Bee, and Law Kar-ying. It's a story about cooking, challenges, and second chances.

The Story of The Chinese Feast

Kit's Journey

Kit was once a very famous Chinese chef. He won many awards and was known as the best. He was about to compete in a big cooking contest. But he cared more about his cooking than his girlfriend. She was upset because he seemed to ignore their relationship. Because of this, they broke up.

Kit felt very sad after the breakup. He realized that success is better when shared with someone you care about. Over time, he lost his passion for cooking. He also seemed to lose his sense of taste. He became grumpy and didn't like being around people.

The Restaurant Challenge

Meanwhile, a popular Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong was owned by a man named Au. A big company called 'Super Group' wanted to take over all the main Chinese restaurants. They wanted to create one huge group and get rid of all their rivals in Asia. Au did not want his restaurant to be taken over.

So, the 'Super Group' boss challenged Au to a cooking contest. The challenge was to cook the amazing Manchu–Han Imperial Feast. If Au lost, his restaurant would become part of the 'Super Group'. Many of Au's employees left to join 'Super Group'. They were promised better pay if Au lost.

Finding Help

Au needed help to save his restaurant. He teamed up with a young chef named Sun. Sun wanted to become a top chef and start a new life. Au's daughter, Wai, also joined them. At first, Sun and Wai tried to cook simple dishes, but they struggled. They soon realized that only a true master chef could prepare the Imperial Feast. Their own cooking skills were not enough.

They decided to ask for help from Lung Kwun-bo, another master chef. Lung didn't know how to cook the Imperial Feast himself. But he told them to find Kit in China. Lung believed Kit was the only one who could help.

Kit's Comeback

When they found Kit, his skills seemed to be gone. Lung then told Sun and Wai to find Kit's former girlfriend. He believed she could help Kit get his passion back. Kit and his girlfriend reunited after some talking. With Lung's help, Sun and Wai worked to help Kit regain his cooking abilities.

During the cooking competition, the chefs made rare and fancy dishes. Kit was able to cook like his old self again. He used his amazing skills to save Au's restaurant. It was a very close contest! The movie ends happily, which is common for movies released around Lunar New Year.
