The Chordettes were a famous American singing group made up of four women. They were known for their fun, upbeat songs, often sung without any instruments (this is called a cappella singing). Their music was mostly traditional pop and doo-wop, which was very popular in the 1950s. They are best remembered for their huge hit songs "Mr. Sandman" and "Lollipop".

Who Were The Chordettes?
The Chordettes started singing together in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1946. They were first known for singing barbershop style, which features close harmonies. Over time, their music changed to include more traditional pop and doo-wop sounds.
The group had several members over the years, but the most well-known lineup included Jinny Osborn, Carol Buschmann, Janet Ertel, and Dorothy "Dottie" Schwartz. They were very talented at blending their voices to create a unique sound.
Their Biggest Hits
The Chordettes had many popular songs, but two of them became massive hits and are still loved today.
"Mr. Sandman"
In 1954, they released "Mr. Sandman". This song quickly became a number one hit in the United States. It's a catchy tune where the singers ask Mr. Sandman to bring them a dream of a perfect person. The song's smooth harmonies and playful lyrics made it a favorite. It also reached number 11 in the UK.
"Lollipop"
Another huge success came in 1958 with the song "Lollipop". This song is famous for its fun, bubbly sound and the unique "pop" sound effects made by the singers. It reached number 2 on the U.S. charts and number 6 in the UK. "Lollipop" is a classic example of the doo-wop style that was popular at the time.
The Chordettes also had other songs that charted, like "Born to Be with You" (1956), which reached number 5, and "Eddie My Love" (1956), which reached number 14. Their songs often appeared on the U.S. and UK music charts, showing how popular they were.
The End of The Chordettes
The Chordettes continued to record and perform until 1963. After that, the group decided to stop performing together. Even though they were only active for about 17 years, their music, especially "Mr. Sandman" and "Lollipop," has remained popular and is still enjoyed by many people today. Their songs are often featured in movies, TV shows, and commercials, introducing their classic sound to new generations.
