The Country Club of North Carolina, often called CCNC, is a private golf community in Pinehurst, North Carolina. It's a special place where people live and play golf. CCNC will host two big golf events in the future: the U.S. Senior Amateur in 2030 and the U.S. Women's Amateur in 2037. This club will be the first ever to host all five of the main USGA Amateur Championships.

History of CCNC

The Country Club of North Carolina is the oldest private golf community in the Sandhills area. It was started in 1963. A group of investors from different cities in North Carolina bought 1,200 acres of land. This land was south of the famous Pinehurst No. 2 golf course.

They worked with a community planner named William Byrd. Together, they made a plan for the land. This plan included building a golf course, which they named Dogwood. The Cardinal Course was built later. Today, almost 1,000 families are members of the club. Many of these families live in the more than 400 homes built inside the community.

Golf Courses at CCNC

CCNC has two golf courses: the Dogwood Course and the Cardinal Course. Both courses are considered among the best in North Carolina.

The Dogwood Course opened in 1963. It was built around two large lakes, Watson Lake and Lake Dornoch. Ellis Maples and William Byrd designed this 18-hole course.

The Dogwood Course has hosted many important golf tournaments. These include the PGA Tour World Match Play Championship and the 1980 USGA Amateur. In 2010, the U.S. Girls Junior tournament was also held here. The course has been updated several times. In 1999, Arthur Hills helped rebuild the greens, tees, and bunkers. In 2016, Kris Spence changed the grass to Zeon Zoysia. This course is highly ranked among golf courses in North Carolina.

Cardinal Course

The Cardinal Course started as a 9-hole golf course in 1970. The other 9 holes were finished in 1981, making it a full 18-hole course. The Cardinal Course is also highly ranked among golf courses in North Carolina.

Facilities at CCNC

The Country Club of North Carolina has a main clubhouse, a tennis club, and a swimming pool. The pool overlooks Watson Lake. The club plans to update these facilities in the coming years.

Clubhouse

The main clubhouse at CCNC was built in 1965. Over the years, more sections have been added to it. The clubhouse sits on a hill, offering great views of Watson Lake. From here, you can also see different parts of the Dogwood and Cardinal golf courses.

Tennis Club

The tennis club has 8 Har-Tru tennis courts. Six of these courts have lights for playing at night. The facility also has a new fitness center. You can also find pickleball courts here.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool was updated in 2004. The entire pool area looks out over Watson Lake, offering a nice view while you swim or relax.
